THE EXPERTS

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN AUDIOLOGY AND SPEECH THERAPY?
Some
of our patients, particularly children have difficulty with auditory
processing – the inability to attach meaning to sounds. The
way a child hears a word and the way he or she processes it does
not always connect. Having a speech therapist and audiologist on
site together is an added value for families in need of both services.
By working together, we can help patient’s overcome their
related hearing, speech, and language challenges so they can communicate
better

A BALANCED LIFE
WHAT
IS AN AUDIOLOGIST?
An
audiologist is a health care professional specializing in identifying,
diagnosing, treating, and monitoring disorders of the auditory system.
Audiologists are trained to diagnose, manage, and treat hearing
problems.
WHAT
ARE THE SIGHS OF HEARING LOSS?
The
primary signs of hearing loss are: asking people to repeat themselves
several times a day, the feeling that people mumble or do not speak
clearly, difficulty hearing people next to you in noisy situations,
and a ringing or buzzing sound in your ears.
WHAT
STEPS CAN I TAKE TO CORRECT HEARING LOSS?
The
first step is to be evaluated by a professional audiologist
to determine if you have an actual hearing loss or if your problem
stems from something else, such as an ear infection or a build-up
of ear wax. An audiologist will be able to determine if the hearing
loss is from a treatable medical condition or nerve damage that
would require further testing and possibly a hearing aid.
HOW DOES RECENT TECHNOLOGY BENEFIT PEOPLE
WITH HEARING AIDS?
The
hearing aids of today are not anything like your father’s
or grandfather’s hearing aids. They are smaller, less noticeable,
and give the wearer less of a “plugged up” sensation,
which makes the hearing aids more comfortable. There are some hearing
aids that are almost invisible. Today’s digital hearing aids
contain microchips that act like tiny computers. Digital hearing
aids reduce background noise and can help you detect speech patterns
to improve your understanding of what people are saying. Digital
hearing aids are also self-adjusting, which means that they will
automatically adjust to your surroundings as needed. At Achieve
Hearing & Rehabilitation, we can adjust your hearing aids to
your spouse’s voice.
